South Carolina women's basketball head coach Dawn Staley recently spoke on the 2024 WNBA season, sharing a bold take on Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson. She believes the 27-year-old should win the Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, and Most Improved Player awards.

Before the finale of the Las Vegas Aces versus Chicago Sky matchup, Wilson was averaging 27.2 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 1.8 steals per game.

While she was an All-Star last season, Staley believes she's proven to be the Most Improved Player. The Aces center leads the league in points and blocks per game.

"I know yall will say I’m crazy and biased or both….maybe but A'ja Wilson is your WNBA Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved..." Staley said.

Staley's "crazy" and "biased" comment stems from her time coaching Wilson at the collegiate level . During their time together with the Gamecocks, the MVP frontrunner helped lead South Carolina to the 2016-17 National Championship. She averaged 17.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game throughout her four-year career in Columbia.

Staley shared a photo of her watching the Aces versus Sky matchup on Tuesday, focusing on former Gamecocks Wilson and Kamilla Cardoso. Chicago came out on top with the 93-85 victory.

The Sky rookie posted six points and seven rebounds, while the MVP frontrunner recorded 28 points and 14 rebounds.

Wilson and the Aces will now head into the WNBA All-Star break. They finished the first half of the season with a 16-8 record, snapping a four-game win streak in the loss to Chicago.
