    USC picked 13th in SEC

    DALLAS, Texas (July 19, 2024) – Five members of the Gamecocks’ football team were selected to the trio of preseason All-SEC squads, as announced by the league office at the annual SEC Football Media Days this week in Dallas.

    Veteran linebacker, Debo Williams, was honored with an appearance on the second team as he was joined by transfer running back Rocket Sanders and long snapper Hunter Rogers. Fifth-year defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway and junior defensive back Nick Emmanwori round out the honorees for South Carolina with an appearance on the third team.

    In addition, South Carolina was picked to finish 13 th overall in the preseason standings, while receiving one vote to win the SEC Championship. Georgia was tabbed as the preseason favorite with 3,330 points and received 165 points as the favorite to win the SEC Championship. The Bulldogs were followed by newcomer Texas with 3,041 points and 27 votes to win the title, while Alabama rounded out the top three with 2,891 points and 12 votes to win the conference championship. This season marks the first year since 1991 with no divisions in SEC Football.

    The Gamecocks will open the 2024 football season on Saturday, Aug. 31 when South Carolina welcomes Old Dominion to Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff for the season opener is slated for 4:15 p.m. and will air on the SEC Network.
