COLUMBIA — South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley was among those who tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter, following Sunday's news that President Joe Biden was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race.

Biden announced his news on X and then endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.

"Thank you, @POTUS @JoeBiden! Job well done! Your historical endorsement of @VP @KamalaHarris is saluted," Staley wrote on Sunday afternoon.

Staley and the Gamecocks had a visit from Harris in January, when she went to Colonial Life Arena to visit the team during practice. Harris was in Columbia for an event held by the NAACP on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

On July 10, Staley posted a video of her and former President Barack Obama at the USA Basketball 50th anniversary reception on July 9 in Las Vegas where Obama made a surprise appearance.

Staley captioned the video "now please let us borrow @MichelleObama for just 4 short years! First Gentleman is a good look for you!"

South Carolina has not been to the White House for either of its previous national championships in 2017 and 2022. So far, there has been no news of the Gamecocks traveling to Washington, D.C., to celebrate the 2024 title win.
