COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Starting off the day again mild and muggy with mostly cloudy to overcast skies. The day ahead will be warmer with just a few stray showers and storms as the front continues to remain draped across the region. But the front washes out with high pressure taking over.

Heading into the Fourth of July temperatures trend hotter with readings in the mid 90s. A Heat Advisory is posted for Thursday for heat index values will reach up to 109 degrees.

A weekend front drops into the southeast region Friday and for the weekend. That helps increase rainfall chances across the area with coverage increasing for scattered.

Hurricane Beryl reached category 5 status, making it the earliest category 5 hurricane ever for the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Beryl was downgraded to a category 4 and lost it’s eye characteristic, but the storm will impact the island of Jamaica with very strong winds and surge.
