New Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit judge to hear first docket Monday

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)— Last week Georgia Governor Brian Kemp swore in a new Superior Court Judge who is set to her first docket in the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit serving six counties on Monday.

Carolyn ‘Tippi’ Burch was appointed by Gov. Kemp to serve as the seventh Superior Court Judge in the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit.

Native of Muscogee County, proud graduate of Brookstone High School, and graduate of Auburn University and the University of Georgia School of Law, Judge Burch looks forward to serving the citizens of her hometown.

“It is an honor and a privilege. Just to be able to serve here is really important,” Judge Burch shared. “To see the strides that Columbus has made, I mean, certainly, definitely still challenges, but to see the way that this city is thriving right now is just a lot of fun to experience.”

Much of her legal career was spent away from Columbus in the metro-Atlanta area. Judge Burch follows a long line of lawyers including her father, Bill Cain, who is an administrative law judge dealing with workers comp cases. Her experience spans across the judicial spectrum from State to Federal level courts. She shares she would like to see more civil trials in Superior Court.

“I know that sometimes the criminal docket can be really overwhelming, and it can seem like there’s not an opportunity for that in Superior Court, but I think that there is a way to get those on the calendar and specifically set cases as needed,” Judge Burch said.

Judge Burch’s goal is to make sure each person gets their time in court to be heard.

Superior Court in the Chattahoochee Circuit oversees most felony and criminal cases, family law, and civil litigation. Judge Burch is the third woman to take the Superior Court Bench of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit.
