COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) The National Infantry Museum hosted a graduation ceremony for soldiers completing infantry training.

A day before Fourth of July, soldiers who completed 22 weeks of basic training have gathered on the Inouye Field to recite the soldiers creed, introduce the infantry rifle squad, and receive honorary awards.

Will Visser, the soldier who received the title of Honor Man for graduating top of his class told WRBL that seeing his family is the most rewarding part of it all.

“It’s awesome being able to see my family,” says Visser.  “It means the culmination of 22 weeks of hard work put into visual action with the ceremony… I am very connected with my family; I am very close with my family so being able to have some time with them is the biggest award imaginable currently.”

Visser is a Specialist E4 in the United States National Guard. Once he returns from spending time with his family, Visser will be continuing up the Special Forces Pipeline and heading to jump school.
