Two people were injured in a stabbing incident Thursday at the Central Freshman Academy, adjacent to Central High School in Phenix City, according to police.

At approximately 2 p.m., the school resource officer at CFA notified the Phenix City Police Department about the stabbing, Capt. Skip Lassiter said in a news release Friday.

“Additional police units responded to the area, and a male subject was taken into custody after fleeing from the school,” he said. “One student was taken to the hospital for treatment, and a teacher was also injured. No treatment was required. This incident is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division. Due to the persons involved being juveniles’ no further information will be released.

Phenix City Schools public relations specialist Carol Ann Underwood emailed the Ledger-Enquirer a copy of the message about the incident CFA principal Sylvia Averett sent to parents:

“Today, our student body experienced a safety threat. One student and a teacher were injured. It was an isolated incident that did not prompt a lockdown response. The student is now under the care of physicians, and the teacher did not require any medical attention. I am grateful for the swift response of our school resource officer and my administration team. Their immediate action helped to ensure the safety of our students.

“I understand that such incidents can be unsettling. However, I want to reassure you that our school safety officer, administration, and law enforcement responded swiftly and effectively. At this time, there is no danger to our students or staff.

“As a reminder, we invite you to partner with us by reminding your child that if they see something, to say something, as that is our best prevention.”
