The Lakes Area Police Department is beginning the process of implementing a unmanned aerial vehicle program. As part of this process, the department is putting out this notice, and taking input from the public on the future use of unmanned aerial vehicles in the cities of Lindstrom and Chisago City. (North Branch, MN) — The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says police fatally shot a woman last week who had been walking down the street in North Branch with a bottle of alcohol and a gun in a case, after she ignored orders to drop the weapon and appeared to “point an object at the officers.” Investigators say before that, one of the officers deployed Pepperball rounds. The husband of 36-year-old Jamie Crabtree told the Star Tribune that she would suffer seizures when she drank and had been in therapy for mental illness. Both officers involved are on critical incident leave as the investigation continues.
North Branch woman with handgun killed by officers
A North Branch woman who was reportedly drunk, suicidal, and carrying a handgun was shot and killed by a member of the North Branch police department. According to a press release from North Branch Police Chief Dan Meyer, at approximately 9:19 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, officers responded to the area of 3rd Ave. and Elm Street on a report of an intoxicated and suicidal woman who was armed with a handgun.
