Now that the critical month of June in college football recruiting has come to a close it's time to update the rankings boards! Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, and a handful of blue blood programs are already putting together dominant 2025 recruiting classes. Some surprise college football programs are making huge leaps already too.

Both of the two major recruiting services, On3 and 247Sports, have updated their consensus team recruiting rankings as of this week, so where do all the top programs stand of as today? Here's the latest Top 25 recruiting classes for 2025 from On3 (in post below), but how do their rankings differ from 247Sports? And what does this mean for where each school will actually land when the rankings are solidified next spring? Let's dive in to see which college football programs are truly building a winning recruiting class and roster.

Top 25 Recruiting Classes for 2025

For those unfamiliar with On3 and 247Sports' processes for building team recruiting class rankings, it's rather simple. They use a proprietary combination of all major recruiting service ratings for the commits to each school to build out a singular score for each college football team's class. On3's formula more heavily favors high pedigree players, caring less about the overall quantity of recruits in a team's class. 247Sports' clearly places a little more emphasis on the depth of a recruiting class overall.

In order to create a true consensus Top 25 for recruiting classes in 2025 I combined the average class rankings from On3 and 247Sports both to create the list below. Also listed is the average number of "blue chip" recruits (four or five stars) according to both recruiting services, plus their "Blue Chip Ratio" (created by Bud Elliott of CBS Sports) which is simply the percentage of players who are four and five stars. So, as of today, here are the consensus Top 25 recruiting classes for the 2025:

    1. Ohio State, 17, 77.27%
    2. Alabama, 16.5, 78.57%
    3. Georgia, 15, 88.24%
    4. Notre Dame, 12, 57.14%
    5. Oregon, 13, 92.86%
    6. LSU, 11, 91.67%
    7. Texas A&M, 13, 72.22%
    8. Clemson, 10, 76.92%
    9. Oklahoma, 11.5, 57.5%
    10. Penn State, 11, 55%
    11. Tennessee, 8, 50%
    12. Auburn, 9, 64.29%
    13. Texas, 8, 61.54%
    14. Miami (FL), 10, 66.67%
    15. Rutgers, 6, 21.43%
    16. Michigan, 9.5, 73.08%
    17. TCU, 5, 23.81%
    18. Wisconsin, 6, 27.27%
    19. USC, 6, 46.15%
    20. Washington, 5, 26.32%
    21. Kentucky, 6, 40%
    22. Florida State, 9, 100%
    23. South Carolina, 4, 25%
    24. Georgia Tech, 2, 10%
    25. Arkansas, 3, 18.75%

    College Football Contender Classes

It may still be early, but 24 of the Top 25 recruiting classes for 2025 already have 12 or more commits. 11 of them already have 20 or more commits. The high school football recruiting timeline continues to accelerate as players seek to secure their roster spots earlier each year. But which schools really have a "contender" class that would indicate they're building towards championship potential?

In the College Football Playoff era, no team with a Blue Chip Ratio below 50% has won a championship. So that means 16 schools are currently building "contender" classes as of now: Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, LSU, Texas A&M, Clemson, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas, Miami (FL), Michigan, and Florida State.

USC, Kentucky, and even Missouri (who just missed the Top 25 at 26th) are all over 40% comprised of four and five stars for now, but don't quite fit the contender bill. All three need significant Transfer Portal help to fill out their classes if they want to contend at the highest levels.

Rutgers, TCU, Wisconsin, Washington, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Arkansas made the Top 25 for now, but all of them could very likely drop out unless they add a few more high pedigree players. Most of their class ranking is driven by volume of commits.

    Disappointing 2025 Recruiting Classes

Three programs who are notably absent from the Top 25: Ole Miss, Florida, and Colorado.

Billy Napier already has enough fire under his seat, but after only securing four commits in the entire month of June--none of which were blue chip players--things are not looking good for the Florida Gators. Florida is currently ranked 59th in high school recruiting for 2025 with just three or four blue chip players and eight total commits as of this writing.

Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin have consistently leaned on the Transfer Portal to build out their rosters, but have also won on the high school recruiting trail in most years. After a rough month of decommits and only two blue chip signings in June the Rebels have some work to do.

Last, and almost definitely least, Colorado and Deion Sanders continue to refuse to actually build a college football program. As of this writing they have just five total high school recruiting commits for 2025, and only two of those are blue chip players. The Buffaloes rank dead last in recruiting right now among all power conference teams (and behind several Group of Five programs). Unless a miracle happens, they'll end up with the worst recruiting class among all major college football programs by far once again.
