Ohio State had quite the offseason when it came to finding an offensive coordinator but it ended up with them landing a guy with a ton of experience.

After originally landing on Bill O’Brien to be the offensive coordinator, he ended up taking the head coaching job at Boston College. Ryan Day had to go back to the drawing board and there he found Chip Kelly to be the guy to call plays .

With it being Kelly’s first time in the Big Ten as a coach, Day has the perfect plan to help him be the best that he can be at the job.

“Chip's here for a reason: to run the offense," Day said. "But I think it's my job as the head coach to look on the horizon and figure out what's coming in this conference, have experience of what's coming down the road, the games we need to win, how we need to win. Also with the type of players that we have. So that will kind of be my input in the offense, knowing what we're doing."

It is the first time that Day is giving up playcalling as the head coach in Columbus. He wanted to move into more of a CEO role, due to the way the college football landscape is nowadays. To bring in a guy with NFL and college experience was a big get.

"I really wanted to have somebody that had head coaching experience. Never thought that you'd have somebody that was a head coach the way he has been in college and in the NFL and that background. So, it allows me a little more of a peace of mind and certainly a lot of trust there. I trust Chip with my life and that's a big part of any time you're handing something over like that that you've done almost your entire career."

There will be no shortage of talent for Kelly and Day to utilize within the offense and make it work. Despite not being named the starter officially, all signs point toward graduate transfer Will Howard being the quarterback. Howard will have a two-headed monster to work with at running back thanks to the transfer addition of Quinshon Judkins to compliment TreVeyon Henderson. At wideout, Emeka Egbuka returned for his senior season, then Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss will be second-year players in the system. Freshman Jeremiah Smith has more hype around him than any freshman wideout that has ever stepped on campus.

Ohio State is built to succeed on offense and Kelly will have his fingerprints all over making that happen. It helps that Day has him in a position to succeed.
