Why Dan Patrick Believes Ryan Day-Ohio State 'Hot Seat' Buzz Rings Louder After Jim Harbaugh's Michigan Exit

There have been rumors that Ohio State Buckeyes head coach, Ryan Day, could be on the hot seat this season. That could be especially true if Day fails to defeat the Michigan Wolverines for the fourth consecutive season.

But Dan Patrick of The Dan Patrick Show jumps into the rumor mill by throwing out his opinion on Ryan Day's job status. According to the popular sports analyst, Jim Harbaugh's departure from Michigan shines an even brighter spotlight on Day's job security at Ohio State.

Patrick argues that losing to a Harbaugh-less Wolverines team could potentially be the nail in the coffin for Day. Especially if Ohio State loses to Michigan in the regular season and a potential playoff matchup.

"Yes, he's (Ryan Day) expected to beat Michigan. You've lost three in a row. Now Jim Harbaugh's no longer coaching [Michigan] and this makes it even more of a hot seat for Ryan Day."

The Buckeyes are looking like a true title contender this season. They're at the top of the list for predictions amongst talking heads like Greg McElroy and Josh Pate. Additionally, Day has led Ohio State to to several winning seasons and holds a 56-8 career record with the program.

But that might be all for nought considering Day hasn't beat the Buckeyes' biggest rival, the Michigan Wolverines, for three consecutive seasons. With Jim Harbaugh no longer coaching the Wolverines, Ryan Day and the Ohio State football program have a window of opportunity to strike.

With that said, The Dan Patrick Show makes some valid points. If Ryan Day loses to Michigan but still manages to bring home a National Championship, then it's hard to imagine the Buckeyes letting him go. But the idea of losing to the Wolverines twice in one season could be detrimental for Day's time as the Ohio State head coach.

It's been a decade since the Buckeyes last won a National Championship. This is a program that is consistently at the top of the rankings. The program and fans alike are starving for another championship run. But it's yet to come to fruition with Ryan Day leading the way.

We'll see how it plays out as the 2024 season progresses. Ohio State is a popular pick to win the Big Ten Championship and go on a deep playoff run. After having another successful offseason recruiting and landing players through the transfer portal, expectations are at an all-time high for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.
