The Michigan Wolverines have had the Ohio State Buckeyes' number lately, winning their third straight game over their opponents. Before 2022, the last time that Michigan won consecutive matchups in "The Game" was from 1999 to 2000.

Paul Finebaum recently spoke with SportsCenter about Ryan Day and Ohio State. According to the college football analyst, Day cannot escape his own shadow. Finebaum said that Day must make the national championship to silence the critics.

"They're the best team. They may be the best team in the country. The question is, can Ryan Day get out of his shadow? We all know about the three straight losses to Michigan, even with players like CJ Stroud at the helm. So, he's gotta beat Michigan," Finebaum said. "Frankly, I think he's gotta get to the national championship game to quiet down the critics."

Day became the full-time head coach at Ohio State in 2019. That year, he led the Buckeyes to a 13-1 season and to the national championship the following year, but lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide. His overall record in Columbus is 56-8.

Since being named full-time head coach, Day has won 11 or more games in four of his five seasons. However, he has lost to Michigan three times and has not played in the national championship since 2021.

Last season, Ohio State came close to reaching the College Football Playoff but lost to the Wolverines, which ended its chance of doing so. The Buckeyes faced the Missouri Tigers in the Cotton Bowl and lost 14-3.

The last time that Ohio State won a national title was in 2015 under former head coach Urban Meyer.

Ohio State opens the 2024 season with the Akron Zips on Aug. 31.
