On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is high on a pair of Ohio State commitments

COLUMBUS – Lettermen Row was in Indianapolis this week for Big Ten Media Days.

While in Indianapolis, Lettermen Row’s Spencer Holbrook spoke with On3 Vice President of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong about Ohio State’s 2025 recruiting class.

Wiltfong broke down the recruitments of several top targets for Ohio State but he also shared his thoughts on a pair of commitments. The first was Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Tavien St. Clair , who was recently ranked as a five-star prospect by On3 after a strong showing at the Elite 11 Finals.

“Well, he’s a guy that Charles Power, Cody Bellaire and the scouting department at On3, they already see as a future first round draft pick,” Wiltfong told Lettermen Row . “He’s got five stars. He’s a top-15 player in the country. And he’s someone that’s going to have a microscope on him going into senior year. He’s one of the biggest names in this class so we will be watching closely how he continues to grow as a senior going into his final prep season.”

St. Clair threw for 3,083 yards and 37 touchdowns to just six interceptions while completing 70.6% of his passes in 14 games as a junior. He also rushed for four touchdowns.

The second commit that Wiltfong spoke about was four-star McKinney (Texas) linebacker Riley Pettijohn who committed to Ohio State over Texas A&M, Texas and USC on July 7.

“He’s got elite speed and he’s got pedigree. His dad was a hell of a college football player at Syracuse. And he is a guy that’s a tackle machine on Friday nights in the Lone Star State. But I think when you talk about what he could be potentially down the road, he’s got a chance to be one of the fastest linebackers in the country in college football.”

“Coach James Laurinaitis and the staff did a really great job recruiting him but he’s special athletically in the second level. And it was certainly a massive pick up to beat Texas, Texas A&M and USC for Riley Pettijohn.”

Pettijohn ranks as the No. 34 overall prospect and No. 2 linebacker in the On3 Industry Rankings . On3 has Pettijohn ranked as the No. 43 overall and No. 2 linebacker in the 2025 class.
