The ongoing costume Chinese drama Are You the One, starring Zhang Wanyi and Wang Churan, released its first set of episodes on Monday, August 12, 2024. It narrates the story of Liu Mian Tang (Wang Churan) mistaking Cui Xing Zhou (Zhang Wanyi) for her husband after waking up from a life-threatening coma. Xing Zhou, who rescued Mian Tang from her enemies, decides to play along and continues to pose as her husband.

Episode one focuses on Mian Tang starting to question her relationship with Xing Zhou. Moreover, his strong leadership qualities are revealed. When bandits viciously attack his army in the night, he leads them to counter the onslaught like a true general. Although a masked assassin shoots an arrow at him that almost pierces through his throat, he manages to catch it with his bare hand.

The scene cuts short to show the views from the quaint town of Lingquan. A carriage stops in front of the Cui Mansion. Mian Tang gets out of the vehicle along with her maid. Her beauty makes townspeople admire her beauty, and women gossip about her whereabouts. Mian Tang’s maid advises her to spend time in peace since she has a cranial blockage. She can only remember snippets from the day of her marriage. The groom, Cui Jiu, is a wealthy and handsome man who sold off all his belongings in the capital to move to this small town for Mian Tang.

After settling down, Mian Tang recalls the first time she looked at Xing Zhou. She had just woken up from a coma, and Xing Zhou was the first person she saw. He had her sack tightly wrapped around his waist. He worriedly inquired about her condition and requested the physician get her back to health. When Mian Tang called him her husband, he strangely looked at her but quickly composed himself and smiled at her.

It is later revealed that it was his master plan to agitate Lu Wen, the brutal bandit leader. Liu Mian Tang is his beloved concubine. Since she went missing, he has mobilized the entire Mount Yang to search for her. Mian Tang’s hand tendons were cut off to make it look like she was hurt by the bandits. Xing Zhou wants to use this opportunity to lure him out of his hiding and prove his worth.

Further into the episode, Mian Tang looks around the market for a place to set up her porcelain shop. Xing Zhou’s men keep a close watch on her. After waking up, she can only remember her maid’s name, Tan. Xing Zhou meets up with Tan and sends her to the Cui Mansion to reconcile with Mian Tang. He asks her to tell Mian Tang that she got married in Dongzhou.

Following his script, Tan reveals her past life to Mian Tang. She tells her that she was the daughter of a magistrate who was killed in prison. She was a talented martial artist and was kind and gentle in nature. Her father sent her off to marry the influential Cui family. On her wedding day, bandits attacked their carriages and looted them, but Cui Xing Zhou saved her. Furthermore, he never questioned her integrity and married her. As such, her words assure Mian Tang.
