Ryan Reynolds‘ involvement with 2024’s It Ends With Us raised eyebrows among those in Hollywood, but a recent report suggests he didn’t violate last year’s WGA strike.

According to a recent report from Variety on the strained relationship between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, Reynolds’ involvement in the project is mentioned as having taken Baldoni by surprise.

The report notes that, after Lively admitted Reynolds wrote a key scene in the film, it shocked director and star Baldoni, who had no idea and thought Lively had come up with the scene all on her own. The WGA also didn’t respond to any request on whether his inclusion in the project would bring an issue regarding uncredited participation or not, however.

Reynolds’ didn’t violate WGA strike during It Ends With Us production

Another issue brought up in the report is that the film’s production began on May 5, 2023, just three days after the start of WGA’s strike. Reynolds, a WGA member, would have been barred from doing any work on a screenplay during the time of the film’s production. But a source close to Variety said that Reynolds’ work on the screenplay came a month prior to the strike’s start.

As for Lively and Baldoni’s issues, it’s unclear what exactly happened between the pair. But things only seem to have worsened over the past few weeks. At first, it began as rumors that the two didn’t like one another, after Baldoni wasn’t photographed with the cast during the film’s New York premiere.

Then, fans online noticed that most of the cast of the film had unfollowed Baldoni on social media. Reports then surfaced of various issues, including alleged tension between Lively and Baldoni on set, issues with Lively’s husband Ryan Reynolds working uncredited on the film, and more. Variety’s report notes that while neither has addressed things, the “bad blood is very real” between the two, although no one can point to exactly what has happened.
