There has been much speculation recently about whether Martin Truex Jr. is retiring from NASCAR. With a career that includes a 2017 Cup Series championship and 34 race wins, fans are eager to find out if these retirement rumors are true.

Here is everything to know about whether Martin Truex retiring from NASCAR.

Is Martin Truex retiring from NASCAR?

Martin Truex Jr. has announced that he will be retiring from full-time NASCAR Cup Series racing after the 2024 season. This brings a close to a remarkable career that includes the 2017 Cup Series championship and 34 race victories. The announcement was made at Iowa Speedway, where Truex hinted that while he is stepping back from the weekly grind, he may still compete in select races, including a possible return for the Daytona 500—the prestigious event that remains missing from his list of achievements.

Truex, who has been a fixture in the sport for over two decades, expressed that the decision to retire comes from a desire to take back control of his life and schedule. “In the 21 years that I’ve done this, I’ve never missed a race. I’ve never missed a practice. I’ve never been late for anything. You live your life by a schedule that somebody makes for you, and it’s just time for me to make my own schedule,” Truex said during the press conference, standing alongside team owner Joe Gibbs. While stepping away from full-time competition, Truex will remain connected to Joe Gibbs Racing as an ambassador. He could still participate in NASCAR Xfinity Series races. Joe Gibbs, who has worked closely with Truex throughout his career, acknowledged the difficulty of letting go of such a key driver but respected Truex’s decision. Gibbs said, “I did everything I could to keep it going. I think we’ve got two 43-year-olds that are at the top of their game.”
