    Como-Pickton CISD graduating seniors received almost $545,000 in scholarships at Monday’s Senior Academic Awards Ceremony.

    Scholarships

    Noelia Garcia received a $500 scholarship from the City of Como, presented by Austin Baxley.

    Tatiana Martinez received a $500 scholarship from Sanitation Solutions, presented by Austin Baxley.

    Patsy Evans presented Kevin Hernandes with the $2,000 Clay Evans Scholarship. from Kelli Williams presented Addison Monk, Kevin Hernandez and Dylan Shumate with $500 Como-Pickton Athletic Booster Club scholarships.

    Kyle Peeks presented Boston Peeks with the $1,000 Como-Pickton Band Boosters scholarship.

    Johnny Flowers, owner of Como-Pickton Burgers and Fries presented second generation employee Nick Johnson with a $1,000 scholarship.

    Michael Bowen presented Rayne Thomas and Cooper Standridge with $1,500 Como-Pickton FFA scholarships.

    Noelia Garcia, Kevin Hernandez, Addi Monk and Tatiana Martinez received $250 scholarships from Como-Pickton Little Dribblers.

    Rayne Thomas and Addi Monk received $500 Farmers Electric Cooperative scholarships.

    Rayne Thomas received a $1,000 Finis and Onree Attlesey and Garland and Sweet Gamblin Scholarship.

    Jan Mills from First National Bank of Winnsboro presented Diego Perez with a $500 scholarship.

    Greenpond Baptist Church Pastor Terry Bolton presented Kevin Hernandez and Dylan Shumate with $1,000 scholarships.

    Josh Hood from Grocery Supply Company presented Camyn Courson with a $2,000 scholarship.

    Wendle Hildebrant, representing the Hawks Gun Club of East Texas and the Friends of the Hawks, presented Anayeli Gomez with a $750 scholarship and Landry Brown with a $2,000 scholarship.

    Valedictorian Dylan Shumate was recognized as the 2024 highest ranking graduate.

    Cody Jalufka presented Rayne Thomas with a $5,000 Hopkins County Junior Commercial Heifer Show scholarship Lou Colvin presented Rayne Thomas with a $1,000 Hopkins County Freedom Ball Scholarship.

    Nancy Moore, representing Hopkins/Rains County Retired School Personnel, presented salutatorian Dana Baxley with a $500 scholarship.

    Kelly Baird presented Rayne Thomas with a $500 International Brothers of Electrical Workers scholarship.

    Robin Shore, Executive Director of the John and Debra Gillis Foundation presented $40,000 Bright Star Scholarships to Daniel Corral and Katy Tifft.

    Trevor Wallace presented Addi Monk with the Letterman to Leadership 2A Athlete of the Year scholarship for $1,000.

    Rayne Thomas received a $2,500 North East Texas Livestock Association Scholarship from Michael Bowen for her participation in the 2024 annual NETLA Junior Livestock Show.

    Addi Monk received a $500 scholarship from Brad Harrison, representing North Texas Softball in honor of Hannah Peagues, a Como-Pickton student who was killed in a 2022 vehicle crash.

    Camyn Courson received a $6,500 scholarship from Prince William Sound College/University of Alaska at Anchorage.

    Cadee O’Bryan received the $500 Senior Poem Scholarship from Superintendent Dr. Greg Bower.

    Como-Pickton graduate Alishia Spriggins returned to present Nick Arnold with a $2,500 Rising World Changers Rural Scholarship.

    Bower, representing the Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge, presented Boston Peeks with a $1,000 scholarship.

    Rayne Thomas received the Texas State Association of Electrical Workers Scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

    Gene Mattison awarded Addi Monk the $500 Tommy Starrett Memorial Scholarship.

    Rudy Alcaron presented eight University of Texas at Tyler scholarships. Kelly Morris received the Patriot Scholarship in recognition of academic excellence, worth $8,000 over four years.

    Alcaron also awarded seven Academic Excellence scholarships, to students who graduate in the top 25% of their class. Recipients included Luis Corral, Noelia Garcia, Kevin Hernandez, Tatiana Martinez and Addi Monk. Salutatorian Dana Baxley received a scholarship that will cover tuition and fees. Valedictorian Dylan Shumate received an Academic Excellence Scholarship worth approximately $72,000, which will cover tuition, fees and room and board. Shumate will attend UT-Tyler.

    Cooper Standbridge received two scholarships from the Winnsboro Fishing Team. Presenter Terry Hayley presented the KT Electric Scholarship for $1,000. Presenter Jerry Besze presented the Kale Robinson Scholarship, also for $1,000. Robinson who was Standbridge’s teammate and fishing partner, passed away suddenly earlier this year after catching his personal best at a tournament.

    Dr. Bower, on behalf of the Yantis Masonic Lodge, presented Addi Monk and Cooper Standbridge with $750 scholarships.

    Gene Mattison presented the $500 Tommy Sterrett Memorial Scholarship to Addi Monk.

    Six students received $1,000 Como-Pickton Administration Scholarships, presented by Bower. Recipients included Dana Baxley, Camyn Courson, Noelia Garcia, Anayeli Gomez, Addi Monk and Ian Rodgers.

    Military Enlistments

    Landon Cummins received his red, white and blue cords signifying his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps from Sergeant Quinones Baez. Cummins joined via the USMC delayed enlistment program on Feb. 7. He plans to become a Marine security guard and protect American embassies. His enlistment is equivalent to a scholarship of approximately $170,000.

    Joel Newsom II received his certificate of appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, from his father, Colonel Joel Newsom I, U.S. Army Retired. West Point “provides leaders of character for our Army who are inspired to careers as commissioned officers in a lifetime of service to our nation,” Col. Newsom said. Joel Newsom II will serve as an Army officer for at least five years after graduation. He was one of 1,200 appointees selected for the U.S. Military Academy Class of 2028. An appointment to West Point is the equivalent of a scholarship roughly worth $300,000.”

    Nick Johnson received a certificate of enlistment in the U.S. Navy from recruiter Petty Officer Garza. Johnson enlisted to work on aviation electronics and will have a chance to fly aircraft. His enlistment is equivalent to a scholarship of approximately $170,000.
