California’s top nursing school is CSULB School of Nursing
The 9th annual Nursing School Review by RNcareers.org has named Cal State Long Beach’s School of Nursing as the best nursing program in California. RNCareers.org compiled its merit-based rankings by assessing over 1,700 nursing programs. Program accreditation, tuition prices, academic achievement, instructor credentials, student happiness, program offerings, career success, and school reputation are some of the factors.

John Legend Teams Up With Box Tops For Education To Introduce An Environmental Science Space For Students At An L.A. School
John Legend is helping create a brighter future for students. According to a news release, the “All of Me” singer partnered with Box Tops for Education to support students at Westport Heights Elementary School, a Title 1 school in Los Angeles, CA. With $30,000 from Box Tops, the school plans to invest in the children by developing an outdoor area where they can learn about environmental science.
USC prepares for the upcoming school year
“It has been a busy place around here this summer,” United South Central superintendent Taylor Topinka told the USC School Board at their meeting on Tuesday night, July 16. “We are half way through the summer, less than six weeks away from new teacher orientation and seven weeks away from having students back in the building. And, the good news is we are fully staffed.”

Local teenager launches Code to Grow to help disadvantaged kids learn technology
A Manhattan Beach teenager has raised $250,000 and launched a nonprofit that allows children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to learn computer coding. Jack Segil, who will be a senior at Chadwick High School next year, has been coding since his early childhood. He became passionate about it at Planet Bravo, a summer coding camp for kids.

Oak Knoll Montessori Announces New Head of School
Allwyn Fitzpatrick has been chosen to lead Oak Knoll Montessori School as its Head of School starting in the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. Previously an elementary and middle school Montessori teacher, Fitzpatrick has worked for Montessori schools in Atlanta, San Francisco and Santa Barbara, where she developed a Montessori curriculum for middle schoolers. This will be the first time she has been a Head of School.
UGA supports Georgia High School Students Through Science & Engineering Fair
Four high school students traveled to Los Angeles, California, to represent the state of Georgia at the 2024 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held May 11-17. Two won monetary prizes during the ISEF special awards ceremony. Daniel Williams of East Coweta High School won the Chief of Naval Research Scholarship Award of $15,000. Daniel was also awarded fourth place in the Robotics & Intelligent Machines category. Tatyana McVay of Paul Duke STEM High School in Gwinnett County won the $750 U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Award.
