CONCORD, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — The Concord Fire Department is using new technology to help with its investigations and training.

The fire department now uses a Matterport camera to create digital 3D pictures as part of the investigation process. Officials say these images document burn patterns and damage so investigators don’t have to return to the site for the investigation.

The camera will also capture 3D pictures that create precise floor plans for structures used in live fire trainings.

These exercises require detailed training plans, and the new technology enhances the ability of fire instructors to know exact dimensions, identify void spaces and pre-plan evolutions without taking multiple visits to the site.
