HOMER CITY POST 493 PLACES THREE ON ALL-SECTION SENIOR LEGION TEAM
The District 31 Senior Legion All-Section Team was released yesterday, and several Indiana County stars made the team. Homer City Post 493 infielder Braden Dunn and outfielder Rocco Cosentino both made first team. Dunn batted .407 and had an OPS of .985, with 22 Hits, 16 RBIs, and 17 runs. Cosentino batted .378 with an OPS of 1.138, 14 hits, 3 doubles, 4 triples, 15 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Gerald L. Thomas
Gerald L. Thomas, 90, formerly of Thomasdale, died July 16, 2024 at Laurel View Village, Davidsville. He was born on March 4, 1934 in Thomas Mills, son of J. Wesley and Bessie M. (Weaver) Thomas. He was preceded in death by wife, Joyce E. (Stemmler) Thomas on April 5, 2024; brothers, Richard and R. Glenn Thomas and infant twin sisters Irene and Arlene. Survived by son, Douglas B. Thomas, married to the former Roberta A. Folton and sister-in-law Margaret of Davidsville. Gerald was a 1952 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and a graduate of Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia. He also received a degree as a Nurse Anesthetist from Reading Hospital. He retired from Mercy Hospital of Johnstown as a Nurse Anesthetist. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding any vehicle with an engine. He was a member of AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America), including charter member of the Flood City Region of AACA and was a member of Early V-8 Ford Club and EMMR (Eastern Museum of Motor Racing). At his request there will be no viewing or service. Interment at Thomas Mennonite Church Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family. FIVE POWER LINES DOWN REPORTED ON MONDAY
First responders were busy yesterday with multiple calls related to utility lines coming down. The first such call was at 2:40 PM yesterday as a line went down along Two Lick Drive in White Township. Four other calls were reported by Indiana County 911 between 4:58 PM and 7:26 PM in locations in Rayne, Canoe, Green and Banks Townships.
Sixteen Hit Offensive Outburst Lifts Somerset Over Erie
The Somerset Patriots were propelled by a 16 hit offensive explosion in their 10-3 victory over the Erie SeaWolves on Saturday night in game five of a six-game series at UPMC Park in Erie, PA. Eight different batters had a hit, while six different Patriots had multiple hits in the contest. Somerset’s 16 hits marked their second highest total in a game this season, trailing only their 17 hits vs. BOW on 5/31. The Patriots went 8-for-16 (.500) with runners in scoring position, their best single-game mark this season.
MAN CHARGED WITH HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE DUE IN COURT FOR STATUS CONFERENCE
A status conference is scheduled for today for a man charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and other crimes. Court documents show that 24-year-old Reed Tantlinger of Homer City will go before President Judge Thomas Bianco for the conference today. Along with the previously mentioned charge, he is accused of accident where the victim dies, two counts of DUI-controlled substance, along with seven summary traffic counts in connection with an incident on January 7th, 2023 that killed 25-year-old Hunter McCloskey. The crash happened in the Westbound lanes of Route 422 in Pine Township as Tantlinger allegedly rear-ended McCloskey’s vehicle, pushing him into several boulders and a utility pole along the side of the road. Tantlinger fled the scene but was later found at a relative’s house.
PSP REPORTS: SALTSBURG CRASH, BRUSH VALLEY BURGLARY
State police have released details on a crash in Saltsburg Borough that happened on the 4th of July. Troopers say the crash happened at 9:23 AM on Canal Street just east of Walnut Way. 63-year-old Joseph Dykes, Sr. of Saltsburg was driving Northwest on Canal Street when the car went off the southern side of the road and went into guide wires, rolling onto its passenger side. The car was disabled. While Dykes had suspected minor injuries, he refused medical treatment from Lifestat EMTs on-scene. Saltsburg Fire Department also assisted on scene.

PENNDOT ANNOUNCES NEW DATE FOR BOX CULVERT INSTALLATION OVER MARSH RUN
PennDOT has announced the re-scheduled date for the installation of a box culvert over Marsh Run in Indiana Borough and White Township. The new date is this Thursday, July 18th and the project will happen from 7 AM to 7 PM that day. There will be some extra traffic restrictions in the project area of Wayne Avenue, as there will be one-lane flagging operations with closures up to five minutes expected as a crane gets placed to install the box culvert. On that day, motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route.
BARRY C. FAILS, 76
Barry C. Fails, 76 of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at his home. He was born April 10, 1948 in Indiana, PA, the son of the late Raymond Fails and Clare (McFeaters) Fails. He was a gas well driller for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles and Coral-Graceton Sportsman Club and a social member of the VFW of Blairsville & New Florence. Barry was a member of the Black Lick Volunteer Fire Company for over 20 years where he enjoyed driving the International Pumper Truck. He enjoyed running demolition derbies for many years, working on cars, riding his Harley and deer hunting.

Road Work Set For Jackson and Concord Townships
Several local roads will be shut down later this week in Jackson and Concord Townships. In Jackson Township, Pattison Street Extension will be closed for three to four weeks beginning Wednesday. The closure will run from Autumn Wood Drive to Gate Dancer/Old Ehrman Road in Cranberry Township. Access from Hartzell Road to Pattison will also be closed.
