Award-winning tenor to present homecoming concert at Grand Halle
Award-winning opera tenor Shawn Roth will return to Johnstown for a special homecoming concert at The Grand Halle at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Hailed as “an exceptionally promising young tenor” by Parterre Box, an influential online opera magazine, Roth is a recent graduate of the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, the world’s only institution dedicated solely to training elite opera singers. Roth is a two-time District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and most recently, First Prize Winner in the Wagner Society of New York’s 2024 Singers Awards.

Kenneth "Kenny" Walter, 89, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 14, 2024. Kenny was the son of David D. and Ruth (Bowser) Walter, born in Salemville, Aug. 22, 1934. Kenny was the father of two sons: Brian (Tina) and Barry, both of New Enterprise; three grandchildren: Kendra Free (Jason), Hunter Walter, and Olivia Walter; two great-grandsons: Bryson and Jordan Free; and numerous nieces and nephews.

MaryJo (Wineland) Donaldson, 79, of Martinsburg, passed away July 10, 2024, at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1944, in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Mattern) Wineland. MaryJo was united in marriage to Donald Devoe Donaldson Dec. 18, 1966, in Martinsburg; he preceded her in death March 22, 2020.

There were no hazardous materials spilled or people injured during that derailment in Logan Township. But, the senators say Norfolk Southern did not properly inform local leaders about the derailment.
Tracy Coyne Resigns from Saint Francis to Pursue New Coaching Opportunity
LORETTO, Pa. — Saint Francis University women's lacrosse head coach Tracy Coyne has announced that she will resign from her post to pursue another coaching opportunity. "Although I'm certainly disappointed that Tracy will no longer lead our women's lacrosse program, I cannot thank her enough for the numerous contributions and accomplishments she brought to Saint Francis during her tenure," said Saint Francis Director of Athletics James Downer. "Through dedication and skill, Tracy brought Red Flash women's lacrosse to profound heights, setting new program marks for most overall wins in a season, the most NEC victories in a season, and for the first time in Saint Francis history, led the team to consecutive postseason berths in the NEC Tournament. Coach Coyne's efforts have done much to elevate and establish our program into a perennial contender, and I'm confident that we'll only build off Tracy's success. We certainly wish Coach Coyne the best of luck in her future endeavors."
