Steelers to host joint practice with Buffalo Bills before preseason clash
The Pittsburgh Steelers will welcome the Buffalo Bills to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe for a joint practice on August 15, the NFL announced on Monday. The Steelers training camp schedule had not previously listed that date. The joint practice will not be open to the public. It will be held just two days before the Steelers play the Bills on August 17 at Acrisure Stadium for their second preseason game.

State police at Greensburg report investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred June 26 at 11:44 a.m. in Mountain Laurel Plaza in the U-Haul parking lot. According to the report, 54-year-old Michael A. Lipuma of Johnstown was operating a 2019 Subaru Legacy eastbound at this location when the vehicle came to a stop at a designated stop sign. Investigators said Lipuma did not clear the intersection and struck a 2019 Hyundai Accent operated by 21-year-old Samira A. Jackson of Latrobe. A passenger – 27-year-old Shania J. Jackson of Latrobe – was in the Hyundai at the time of the crash. The Hyundai was traveling northbound at his location when it was struck by Lipuma’s Subaru. Investigators said no one reported any injuries at the crash scene.
Geeseytown-Newry Lutheran Hosts Upcoming Events
Newry Lutheran Church, 1030 Shamrock Ln., will distribute bags of food from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 27, in the church social hall. The “Meal in a Bag” will contain enough food to prepare dinner for a family. Bags will be distributed while supplies last at no charge; no income guidelines exist to receive the bag of nonperishable food items. Bags are distributed monthly on the last Saturday of each month.

It was a challenge I gladly accepted because I was fairly good at memorizing, and, for each task completed, we received a different colored star on a chart. That was a good motivation for me.

By Aug. 1, new electric power lines were to have been installed in Roaring Spring, along with the construction of a 13,200 - volt line from the Claysburg substation via Ore Hill to Roaring Spring. This change brought the source of power to Roaring Spring from Saxton instead of from the power company in Williamsburg. Reduced rates were to go into effect at about the same time–9¢ per kilowatt hour for the first 30 hours and 5¢ per kilowatt hour for the excess with a minimum charge of $1 per month.
Spring Cove Board Discusses Livestreaming
One of the biggest topics of discussion at the Spring Cove School District Board of Directors Regular meeting for July was the live streaming of board meetings. Most of the board expressed that it would be an excellent means of bringing the meeting to those who could not attend the meetings in person.

In response to weeks and months of little or no rainfall in much of the state, Gov. Tom Ridge this week declared a drought emergency across much of the state, including Blair, Bedford and surrounding counties. Ridge characterized the current drought as the worst since 1964, and said it is threatening to deplete the state’s water supplies.
Junior Fair Board Hosts Exciting Lineup of Events at 150th Bedford County Fair
The Junior Fair Board announces a series of events as part of the 150th Bedford County Fair. From ceremonies to activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy. A cornhole tournament will be held at 6 p.m. in the Show Arena. Teams can sign up on the day of the tournament at the Fair. The Grandstand for a Military/Veteran Appreciation Ceremony takes place on July 22 at 5 p.m. Ceremony highlights include community speakers, music by Route 869, honored guests, and a Blackhawk helicopter appearance. Come out to honor those who serve and have served our country with valor. Following the military ceremony, the Grandstand will be at 7 p.m. with ‘Voices on the Grandstand,’ featuring performers from our local community.
