CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A suspect was killed after he attempted to strike officers with his vehicle in Catawba County, deputies say.

The incident occurred in a parking lot at Elite Comfort Solutions, located at 1115 Farrington St. SW in Conover.

Around 6 p.m., members of Catawba County’s Special Tactics and Response Team (STAR) attempted to apprehend a suspect wanted on several felony and misdemeanor crimes.

During that attempt, this suspect refused to comply with the officer’s orders and then struck several law enforcement vehicles and a private vehicle in an attempt to flee.

The suspect was shot and killed by STAR members as he approached other members of law enforcement with his vehicle.

The suspect was wanted for second-degree kidnapping, common law robbery, felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats, injury to personal property and had an outstanding domestic violence protective order, which deputies attempted to serve.

The suspect was also out on bond after being charged with murder in an unrelated incident.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.

The name of the suspect is being withheld until next of kin are notified.
