Southeast Polk football, Dike-New Hartford volleyball, named Teams of the Year
The Southeast Polk football team and the Dike-New Hartford volleyball team were named the Boys and Girls Teams of the Year Monday night at the Iowa High School Sports Awards, presented by SCHEELS. The event was held at Hoyt-Sherman place in Des Moines and honored more than 250 Iowa student-athletes.
‘Neon Era’ Corn Carnival Collectors’ Fair set for June 13
GLADBROOK – Plans are underway to host the 27th Corn Carnival Collectors’ Fair. The theme is ‘Neon Era.’ We invite collectors to come and share your treasures with all of us and help make the 102nd Corn Carnival memorable. The variety of collections and hobbies will be on display from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at the Memorial Building. The building will be open during the Kiddies Parade.

AGWSR Baseball secures wins at North Tama tournament
The AGWSR baseball team earned two much-needed wins at a tournament at North Tama Saturday. The Cougars defeated the hosting Redhawks 5-1 and beat Maquoketa Valley 4-3. In the North Tama game, the teams opened with five scoreless innings. But the Cougars struck first with two runs in the top of the sixth and three more in the seventh to pull away. North Tama threatened with one run in the bottom of the seventh. The Cougars manufactured runs with four stolen bases. Landen Dennis led offensively with one hit and two RBIs. Bo Starr pitched the first six innings with two hits allowed, four strikeouts and three walks.
Pam Thomas joins Gladbrook Lions Club
GLADBROOK – The Gladbrook Lions Club met at Peace Church on May 23. At the meeting new member Pam Thomas was presented her new member certificate and packet. Jeanne Paustian was her sponsor. Pam’s husband, Howard, was a long time Lions member at Juneau, Wisconsin. Pam is pictured with Leroy Thomsen, who is our last living Charter member. The Gladbrook Lions received its Charter in May of 1960. At the meeting the group decided to run the 2024 Corn Carnival bingo on Friday night.
Iowa Falls Police Arrest Two Tuesday Night
Tuesday, after 9:30 p.m. the Iowa Falls Police Department was called out on the report of stolen property from the Iowa Falls Walmart. Upon arrival, law enforcement arrested 32-year-old Serina Carroll of Kirksey, Kentucky and charged her with fifth-degree theft. Also arrested was 25-year-old James Cooper of Monroe, Georgia for fourth-degree theft.
