Ackley City Council Holds Special Meeting
Last week, the Ackley City Council held a special meeting and continued to discuss the merger of the Ackley Volunteer Ambulance Service with Eldora EMS. A negotiation team presented a counter proposal last week, which included a three-year agreement with a 60-day notice of termination and Ackley requesting one crew in the city three days a week.
Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Spraying for Mosquitoes
Announced yesterday by the Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department, they plan to spray for mosquitoes in Riverview Park and along the Linn Creak Trail from Mega-10 Park to the Little League Complex. They will do the spraying early Friday morning, starting around 4am. They ask that if anyone is sensitive to chemicals to avoid this area. The fatal shooting of a 13-year-old in Eldora in April was inadvertent and the result of “gunplay,” Hardin County Attorney Darrell Meyer stated. Sauerkraut Days begins Thursday
Ackley’s 121st Annual Sauerkraut Days will begin Thursday. Events include Chalk the Walk on Park Avenue at 3:00, the kiddie parade at 6:00, sand art in Victory Park at 6:30 and the Doo Wops in the bandshell at 7:00. The Chamber food stand will open at 4:00, followed by the opening of the midway and Kraut Pub at 5:00.
Falcons sweep Union in softball and baseball Thursday
The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams both defeated Union Thursday at home. The softball team won 10-4 and the baseball team won 9-2. In the softball game, the Falcons heated up in the second with three runs on hits from Eva Walker and Avery Freund to take a 4-0 lead. After Freund drove in another run in the fourth, Walker and Kendall Riherd combined to bat three runs in for an 8-1 lead. Union cut the deficit to 8-4 in the top of the sixth, but the Falcons responded with RBIs by Sophia Junker and Walker in the bottom of the sixth. AP (3-7, 2-4 NICL-C) will be at Belmond-Klemme Friday at 6:00 p.m. The Broncos knocked the Falcons out of the playoffs last season.
Bolts jolt Wolverines at home, 11-6
GREEN MOUNTAIN — Kaleb Gill is the only senior on this year’s GMG baseball team, and he’s embracing the challenge. GMG came up short on Friday, May 24 against Baxter, 11-6, but Gill said it’s a work in progress coming off last year’s substate final run.
Miller Middle School Presents Plans
The Marshalltown Community School District held a meeting at Miller Middle School at the end of May to talk about the school’s future. Miller Middle school is 100 years old and it is in need of some updates. Dr. Schutte, Superintendent of Schools, tells KFJB listeners how that meeting went.
Redhawk softball thriving with Sienknecht on the mound
TRAER – Under head coach Madonna Merchant, Redhawk softball continues to evolve and thrive this season with not only new uniforms but several new players including GMG transplant, starting pitcher Adelyn Sienknecht who led North Tama to their first win of the season back on May 22: a resounding rout, 11-1, over the Baxter Bolts in front of the hometown Traer crowd.
School board talks what to do next on PPEL
The June 3 school board meeting started with a bit of confusion on Monday night. After a good 10 minutes of fighting through technology issues with Google Meets, the online video call used to broadcast the meeting to those unable to be at the STC Partnership in person, the meeting was called to order.
