TAMA – On Monday’s sultry brow sweat of an evening, local citizens made their way down to the Tama City Council meeting. The meeting started with the discussion of sidewalks. The, as it was referred to, “Old Catholic Church,” which is currently being converted into a Christian school was approved to have its sidewalk moved for convenience.

REINBECK – Whether you were searching for local honey, gourmet salt, early spring veggies, delectable baked goods (macaroons!), potted plants and flowers, or even some fresh stickers for your laptop or water bottle, the Reinbeck Farmers Market did not disappoint last Saturday morning. A healthy crop of vendors along with scores of local shoppers including many young families turned out along the closed-off 100 block of Broad Street from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for the market’s 2024 season opener.

Frances Jean Bergman was born on January 18, 1929 on a farm east of Parkersburg, Iowa. She was the youngest child of Henry John Kalkwarf and Elizabeth (Mulder) Kalkwarf. After graduating Parkersburg high school in 1947, Frances worked at Van Eman & Mulder law firm until her marriage to Harold Ray Bergman in Parkersburg in 1950. Thereafter, she worked in Davenport, Iowa for Bessler Locomotives. Relocating to Oakland, Iowa, Frances was secretary to the school superintendent. Frances and her growing family also lived in Hampton, Maquoketa and Toledo, relocating in 1963 to Audubon, Iowa where she worked part time as a legal secretary for a law firm, the local newspaper, and in real estate.
