Lzzy Hale made her debut as the singer of Skid Row over the weekend during a pair of concerts on Friday and Saturday (May 17th and 18th) in Illinois and Iowa.

Hale is filling in on vocals after Skid Row’s previous frontman, Swedish singer Erik Grönwall, stepped away from the group due to health issues.

The band had four gigs on the books — now billed as the “Skid Row x Lzzy Hale” run — when Grönwall announced his exit. The first came on Friday (May 17th) at Walker’s Bluff in Carterville, Illinois, where the Hale-fronted glam metal icons performed a 16-song set.

They kicked things off with one of the heaviest Skid Row tracks in “Slave to the Grind” and proceeded to hit the obligatory hits (“I Remember You,” “18 and Life”), a cover (“Psycho Therapy” by the Ramones), and more heavy metal (“Monkey Business”). An encore of “Riot Act” and “Youth Gone Wild” (featuring Halestorm guitarist and Lzzy’s partner Joe Hottinger) ended the evening, and per Setlist.fm , a similar set was performed the following night (May 18th) at the Riverside Casino in Riverside, Iowa.

Dedicated fans captured much of the Illinois set from the pit, giving us an up-close look at “Skid Row x Lzzy Hale.” She’s totally locked in and clearly practiced hard for the role, memorizing all the lyrics and delivering the vocal lines commandingly. Hale even sported a glam-metal era look to completely sell it.

Lzzy Hale and Skid Row will also perform on May 31st in Reno, Nevada, and on June 1st in Sacramento, California (get tickets here ). As for who will take over as the singer after that… Sebastian Bach thinks there is a “good chance” a reunion with his old band is on the horizon.
