Alice in Chains have announced a 15th anniversary vinyl reissue of their 2009 comeback album Black Gives Way to Blue . The 2-LP repressing arrives September 27th in four vinyl colorways via Craft Recordings.

Black Gives Way to Blue has long been out-of-print on vinyl, with original pressings fetching steep prices on the secondhand market.

Now fans and collectors can nab the record in three new colorways: “Black Widow” red smoke (available exclusively through the Alice In Chains store), “Black Smoke” (via the Craft Recordings store), and “Electric Smoke” (available via Revolver). There’s also a standard black vinyl pressing available via Amazon .

Alice in Chains’ fourth studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue marked a new chapter for the band. After a lengthy hiatus and the passing of frontman Layne Staley in 2002, AIC made their valiant return with a new singer, William DuVall, and eventually released their comeback LP in 2009 to widespread acclaim.

“There was no master plan, despite what people think,” Cantrell told Metal Hammer back in July regarding AIC’s comeback. “This felt right, so we did the next thing, and then the next thing… It’s more than just making music and it always has been. We’ve been friends a long time. We’re not doing this to please anybody. It had to be OK from here [points to chest].”

The band’s steady lineup of DuVall, singer-guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney, and bassist Mike Inez continues to tour and release new music, with 2018’s Rainer Fog being their latest full-length.

Cantrell has also been active as a solo artist. He’s currently on the road supporting Bush’s North American summer tour (get tickets here ), and he has a new album on the way .

You can find the various pre-order destinations for specific vinyl variants at available via Amazon . Check out product photos of the different colorways and the vinyl tracklist below.
