K9 Onyx passes away following medical emergency
GAINESVILLE, Texas — The Cooke County Sheriff's Office has announced the passing of K9 Onyx, who suffered a medical emergency on July 12, 2024, while preparing for duty with her partner, Deputy Ryan Thacker.K9 Onyx, a full-blood Dutch Shepherd, was transported to a Collin County veterinary clinic for emergency surgery but sadly passed away during the procedure. Onyx had been a valuable member of the department since 2020, contributing to numerous narcotics arrests and large currency seizures, and providing assistance to other law enforcement agencies in the county."K9 Onyx will be deeply missed," stated Sheriff Ray Sappington.
