Conversations About New Cookeville Hotel Heating Up
Talks of adding a hotel near the New Putnam County Fairgrounds have picked up over recent months as the convention center nears completion. Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said the discussions began some three years ago. He said that for many developers, the construction of the convention center and expo center were the keys to that interest. He said the convention center is slated to be completed in September and he hopes a hotel eventually follows.

Monterey Yard-Sellers Moved Across Holly Street
Monterey Aldermen voted Monday night to move yard sellers in the Farmers Market facility to a grassy area on the railroad side of South Holly Street. Alderman Bill Wiggins said an event June 22 brought the issue to a head again, the conflict between yard sales and farmers. Alderman Charles Looper said the yard sellers would have a lot more space across the street.

Jackson County American Legion Post 129 will host a flag retirement on July 4th. The flag code established in 1923 states that “the flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing.” Agitant for Post 129 Everette Vanhooser said that means the flag must be handled properly.
