Coon Rapids’s Fourth Of July Celebration Kicks Off Wednesday Evening At City Park
The City of Coon Rapids is all ready for a complete two-day celebration for Independence Day, with a barbeque, live music, and fun for everyone. Starting tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5:00 p.m., down at the Coon Rapids City Park will be a free-will donation barbeque with proceeds benefiting the fire and EMS departments. The two organizations also sponsor the beer garden to coincide with the food. Live music by local talent, STUDIO 728, will kick off at 5:30 p.m., followed by 2 ½ GUITARS from 8:00 p.m. to midnight, playing various music genres. Thursday, the Fourth of July celebration will begin with a Patriotic Parade starting at 10 a.m. Before the parade, anyone can register a car, truck, golf cart, UTV, etc., on Main Street. This year’s route will be traveling up and down most of the streets within the city. The holiday will end with fireworks at dusk or around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Aquatic Center Park. The City of Coon Rapids invites everyone to come out to celebrate the Independence Day holiday with their annual celebration, starting tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5:00 p.m. With the rain and thunderstorms scheduled in the forecast, be sure to follow Coon Rapids, Iowa on Facebook for updates on schedule changes or cancelations.
A New Sidewalk-Cost-Share Program Is Available For Residents In Glidden
The City of Glidden is participating in a new program, allocating $30,000 to help residents repair or build sidewalks throughout town. The City council approved the sidewalk-cost-share program during the last meeting, but this has been discussed since December last year. City Administrator Brooke Peterson says the council was receptive to the idea in 2023 but just wanted to gather more information to see if this program would be a great fit for the Glidden community.
Guthrie County Board of Supervisors Discuss Future of Compensation Board
(Guthrie Co) The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors held a discussion this morning on the future of the Compensation Board. As of July 1st, the Compensation Board no longer exists. The Iowa legislature passed a bill that allows the Board of Supervisors to decide whether to have a Compensation Board or not. If they choose not to, then the Board of Supervisors will act as the Compensation Board. Compensation Boards were in charge of reviewing and comparing elected official’s salaries and recommending a compensation schedule.
2nd Annual Porch Fest is This Sunday
The 2nd Annual Porch Fest returns to Jefferson this Sunday. Jefferson Matters Tower View Team Chair Deb McGinn says the event includes musicians playing on four porches in Jefferson, with the last concert taking place at the Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County. She talks about how the first year of Porch Fest went in 2023.
Fireworks Ordinances for the Main Towns of Guthrie County
The 4th of July is this week, and residents of the major towns of Guthrie County need to remember the ordinances related to fireworks. In Guthrie Center and Panora, fireworks are not allowed within city limits. For Stuart, fireworks are allowed from June 1st to July 8th, and can only be lit on private property. Additionally, fireworks can only be shot off between the hours of 9am and 10pm, except for July 4th and the Saturdays and Sundays directly preceding and following the holiday, when they are allowed between 9am and 11pm for Stuart residents to remember.
4th of July Fireworks Show in Jefferson is Moving to Another Location
After the past several years of having a free fireworks display at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson, there will be a change of venue for this year. City Administrator Scott Peterson says a request from Wild Rose was made to the city to host this year’s free fireworks display at another location. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio, the city asked the Greene County Fair Board if they could move the fireworks show to the fairgrounds, to which the Fair Board agreed. Peterson appreciates the partnership with the Fair Board for this event.
Iowa Auditor Rob Sand to Visit Adair and Guthrie Counties Next Week
Adair and Guthrie Counties will be seeing a state official next Tuesday, July 9th. Sand will be at Greenfield City Park from 1:45-2:45pm, and at Mitchell Park in Guthrie Center from 3:15-4:15pm. He will be available to answer questions that constituents may have about some of the new bills that have been passed, and work to help bring information that those in attendance may be looking for. According to Sand’s office, a recent poll shows that he has the highest job approval rating and lowest job disapproval rating of any state official.
