Decision day is nearing for Mulberry (Fla.) three-star defensive lineman Jarquez Carter , who will be committing on July 18. Although the 2025 prospect who will be choosing between Miami UCF, Penn State, and Ohio State is still more than a week away from his commitment, he told CaneSport he already knows where he will be playing college football.
“I feel really good about the decision I’m about to make,” Carter said. “I have my decision made. It was just that feeling that I had when I was there. The school I’m picking was just the best fit for me and fits my style of play.”
This past June, the 6-foot-2, 270-pounder took a handful of official visits to his top schools, which he believed helped him see all that he needed from each program.
“I felt like those visits were really important to me,” Carter said. “I was able to go to every big school in the country. This recruiting process taught me a lot, and that helped me narrow down a lot of things, and that helped me make the best decision for myself and my family.”
Carter, who is the No. 401 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking said that his trip to Coral Gables stood out above the rest.
“That still is the best visit I took,” Carter said. “You can’t beat Miami in recruiting. They’re the best recruiting school in the country. I’ve been to every big school and every contender school, and Miami is the best recruiting school in the country.”
A big reason for that was Miami’s coaching staff. From Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal to defensive line coaches Jason Taylor and Joe Salave’a, Carter felt a genuine connection with Miami’s staff, which left a lasting impression.
“They have one of the best coaching staffs with Coach Cristobal,” Carter said. “You actually see how much he cares about the players and he’s the most energized on the coaching staff and he’s the head coach. You really don’t see that often.”
CaneSport’s take
Carter is saying all the right things about the Hurricanes but we will not know a decision until July 18. Miami’s staff has made Carter feel like a top priority this recruiting cycle so it will be interesting to see if their recruiting efforts will have paid off in the end.
