A Historic Department Store Is Now Iowa's Best New Steakhouse And Speakeasy
Historic buildings are a big part of what makes cities unique, and I always love to see that old-time charm even as the purpose of the building changes. That’s exactly what’s happened to one building in the charming Mississippi River city of Davenport, and the result is the best new speakeasy in Iowa. The Garrison, which opened in late 2023, is located in the historic Redstone Building, which used to house an iconic department store. That business is long gone, but management has preserved the famous exterior even as it now plays host to some of the best food, drinks, and music in Davenport. The Garrison is still building buzz as a new restaurant, but it seems clear that this is now one of the gems of the Davenport dining scene.

Iowa Has Three Of The Cleanest Cities In America
Maybe because it's summer but I keep noticing a lot of trash all over the place. Like, more than normal. I especially see it along highways and interstates in the ditches and makes me think, "Do we really have that many litterbugs out there?" I guess so. Somehow, someway, Iowa...

Moline Movie Theater Re-opening 1 Year Later As VIP Moline 14
Two re-opening stories in 2024?! That definitely wasn't on my bingo card for this year but I'm here for it. Back in March, a Davenport sub shop game back from the grave and has since re-opened. Well, after being closed for almost 1 year exactly, the movie theater off of John Deere Road in Moline will also be re-opening. Sure, it will be under new ownership than before but it will be great to have two movie theaters in the Quad Cities and one on each side of the river.
