    Lake Norman swimmer found dead Saturday night: Cornelius FD

    CORNELIUS, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A swimmer was found dead Saturday night after drowning in Lake Norman, according to the Cornelius Fire Department.

    Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, local law enforcement found a man while using drone-like equipment in the water. His body was found near the Sandbar, officials said.

    Just after 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue called the search a “drowning incident.” On Friday, Huntersville Fire reported first responders were back out on the lake.

    According to the Huntersville Fire Department and Medic officials, the incident was near the sand bar, west of the Bethel Church Road peninsula.

    His age and identity have not been released at this time. Officials want to thank local law enforcement and the community for helping in the search.
