Los Angeles County firefighters are getting much needed help in lowering wildfire risk by using goats and sheep to chew away away at dry vegetation.The Los Angeles County Fire Department held a demonstration Tuesday in the Topanga area to show how the animals help clear brush in fire-prone areas. Downtown Santa Monica kicked off Roll @ Santa Monica earlier this month with music, skate performances and entertainment with LA Skate Hunnies. The program runs through Oct. 14. The second Wednesday of each month will be themed. Group skating lessons will be offered every Saturday and Sunday morning for adults and children. The 4,800-square-foot outdoor rink, operated by Willy Bietak Productions, is at 1324 Fifth Street, Santa Monica. Staff photographer Chris Mortenson was there to capture the events.
