A man who is very familiar with Corning Union High School District has agreed join the district as its new superintendent, announced out-going Superintendent Jared Caylor on Monday.

Miguel Barriga, a 1984 Corning Union High School graduate, will be on the district’s Board of Trustees agenda for approval of an employment agreement with anticipation of a start up date of July 29.

“He returns with a wealth of knowledge and experience to guide the District,” Caylor added. “He has a history of improving academic outcomes and strengthening relationships for greater collaboration.”

Barriga most recently served as an elementary school principal at Murdock Elementary School in the Willows Unified School District, where he was recognized as the Elementary Principal of the Year in 2023.

He has also served as a principal in the Los Molinos School District for three years and as associate principal at Red Bluff High School for nine years.

An educator since 1993, Barriga holds a Bachelor of Arts from Chico State University and a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership and Administration from National University.

According to his Facebook page, Barriga is married and lives in Cottonwood.

Barriga takes the helm upon the resignation of Caylor who on June 14, informed the CUHSD Board of Trustees he is accepting the assistant superintendent position with the Tehama County Department of Education.
