A Corning man convicted of recklessly causing a vegetation fire at two locations and threatening a witness has been sentenced to five years in state prison.

Robert Lloyd Perozzi, 43, was handed down the sentence in Tehama County Superior Court this month on charges of recklessly causing a fire, with a special allegation, and offense committed while on bail.

According to the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office, Perozzi was driving his vehicle on a bare metal rim when he peeled out of a gas station causing sparks and leaving gauge marks in the blacktop.

Perozzi the drove down the road causing more sparks, which set fire to grass along the roadway in two locations, then ditched the vehicle and left on foot, reported the district attorney’s office.

The next day, police said he went to the gas station and made threatening remarks to the clerk.

Robert Lewis Denlay – sentenced to four years and four months in local prison convicted of felony forgery, identity theft and failure to appear in court.

Denlay walked into the Solano Street Liquor, provided his identification and cashed a forged check from California State University, Chico, made out to himself in the amount of $1,584.

Four days later, he went back into the store and cashed a forged $110 check, again made out to himself.

The next day Solano Street Liquor reported the fraudulent checks to the Corning Police Department and shared surveillance of the interchange to the officer.

The officer contacted both the University and the second victim, both of which confirmed they had not issued the checks. A couple days later Denlay was again at Solano Street Liquor attempting to cash another fraudulent check.

Police located Denlay soon after, on April 12, and when they made contact reported locating numerous forged checks in his possession, as well as W2s, mail, a computer, printer, blank checks and stolen access cards.

Philip McDonald – sentenced to two years in local prison, convicted of injuring spouse/cohabitant/fiance and battery.

McDonald battered his fiance by dragging her to the ground, pulling out her hair and striking her about five times. When she attempted to flee, McDonald attacked her again, hitting and strangling her before letting her go.

Gregory Tewart II – sentenced to eight months in local prison having been convicted of second degree burglary.

Tewart was found to be in possession of an item stolen from an abandoned house, which had surveillance video of the crime.

Thomas John Porterfield – sentenced to seven years in state prison after being convicted of assault with a firearm with a special allegation-use of firearm.

On Dec. 9, 2023, Red Bluff police officers responded to a report of shots fired, where they found Porterfield with a handgun and a victim with gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.

The victim reportedly told the officers he had been jumped by Porterfield and two other people and was shot during the struggle.
