CORNING, N.Y. ( WETM )– The Salvation Army is making red kettles available to businesses in Corning to get a head start in raising money. The goal is set at $65,000 after missing last year’s mark.

The Salvation Army is hoping to expand its reach throughout the community in order to fully fund their programs as the Christmas season is getting closer.

Corning Salvation Army to host Christmas in July fundraiser

Major Anita Stewart of the Corning Salvation Army said, “We decided since there’s only 153 days before Christmas to do a rally for volunteer participation, to help us meet our goal for Christmas because last year, we were $40,000 short.”

Major Stewart added that the fundraising effort is geared towards supporting its programs such as the summer day camp and the year-round after-school program. While 50 kids benefited from the summer day camp program last year only 20 kids were able to sign up this summer due to lack of funding.

Between now and Monday, July 29, people can visit the businesses listed below and make a donation in the red kettles of the Corning Salvation Army.

    • Connors Mercantile
    • Butcher’s Son Corning
    • Mooney’s Sports Bar and Grill
    • Nine Elephants
    • Aniello’s Pizzeria
    • Bottles & Corks
