    ‘Eagle Fire’ near Corona triggers evacuation orders

    A vegetation fire near Corona and Lake Mathews has forced officials to give evacuation orders to some residents in the area, according to authorities.

    First reported at about 2:21 p.m. Sunday, the blaze covered 321 acres with 0% containment as of 3:45 p.m., according to Cal Fire . As of 5 p.m., it spanned 450 acres , though by 9:30 p.m. officials said crews had the blaze to 25% containment.

    It was located in the area of Eagle Canyon Road and Cajalco Road, which connects Corona to Lake Mathews.

    There was 145 personnel assigned to the blaze as of 3:45 p.m. and one helicopter was dropping water. Cal Fire said the fire was growing at a rapid rate.

    Evacuation orders spanned the following areas:

    • North of Farley Avenue
    • South of Cajalco Road
    • East of Verdino Circle and Cajalco Road
    • West of Cajalco Road

    According to the order, there was an immediate threat to life in the area. There was no word on whether any injuries had been sustained or rescues had been performed as of 4:20 p.m.
