Corpus Christi International Airport has a new direct flight. Here's where it goes.

Corpus Christi travelers will now have more choices for direct destination flights, according to a news release issued Monday.

Using a nine-passenger airplane, Aerus Airlines will be the air travel provider between Monterrey, Mexico, and Corpus Christi, the email from the city of Corpus Christi states.

City officials have regularly cited increasing the direct flights portfolio of the Corpus Christi International Airport as a key ingredient to bolstering economic development in the region – so much so that those efforts at one point had been considered for support via a proposed sales tax.

Attracting direct flight destinations is no longer in consideration for sales tax.

However, in the news release, city officials highlighted the potential benefits of the new airport offering.

In the email, Corpus Christi Paulette Guajardo described it as a “a fantastic opportunity for our residents to connect with Monterrey, Mexico, for business and pleasure.”

“It also signifies the growing demand for air travel in our community and paves the way for attracting more international destinations in the future,” she wrote.

The direct flight services to Monterrey, Mexico, begin Sept. 12 at four times per week, the news release states.
