The Caller-Times begins its preview of the 2024 high school football season with a summer series looking at the best players across the Corpus Christi area.
Over the next several weeks, leading up to kickoff in Week 1, we will highlight some of the best players in various positions, starting with five receivers to watch.
Here are the players listed in alphabetical order:
Cameran Dickson, sr., Flour Bluff
Dickson has been making plays for the Hornets for several years as part of a senior class that has been integral in Flour Bluff's success since they were freshmen. Dickson is committed to Vanderbilt and could easily make this list as a defensive back, as well. Dickson finished with 69 catches for 1,141 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior.
Ryder Harrison, jr., Gregory-Portland
Harrison's stats aren't as startling as others on this list because he missed a chunk of his sophomore season with a significant chest injury. Harrison is another two-way star that is among the best athletes in the Coastal Bend, evidenced by earning a silver medal at the state track meet in pole vault. He has the ability to be a game-breaker for the G-P offense.
Corey Holmes, sr., Miller
Holmes has shown the ability to be one of the best running backs in the area, but worked himself into a top receiver in his second season starting for the Bucs. Holmes finished with 1,025 yards and 21 touchdowns receiving, adding 684 yards rushing and 167 yards with two touchdowns as a kickoff returner.
Jacoby James, sr., Sinton
James skillset was on full display in the Pirates' playoff game against Geronimo Navarro tallying nearly 200 yards receiving. The versatile athlete — that doubles as one of the region's best basketball players — caught 45 passes for 1,025 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging more than 22 yards a catch last season.
Aiden Salinas, so., London
Salinas made an impact at London no matter what sport season it was as a freshman as one of Corpus Christi's best in football, basketball and baseball. Salinas and quarterback Alexander Manning had a strong connection and penchant for making big plays. Salinas totaled 712 yards and eight touchdowns on 38 receptions in 2023.
Five more to watch: Eathen Vela, sr., Miller; Andre Mimms, sr., Flour Bluff; Brandon Coates, sr., Gregory-Portland; Tim Sanchez, jr., Robstown; Aiden Martinez, sr., Odem
