This year, six young women will vie for the title of Miss Cokato. Schell’s Hobo Band to lead Cokato Corn Carnival
The rhythmic beat of a circus march, played by a group of shabbily dressed musicians, has long heralded the arrival of the Schells Hobo Band. Now, this iconic Minnesota ensemble will lead the 2024 Cokato Corn Carnival as grand marshals, a homecoming of sorts for a band that performed at the inaugural event in 1950.
California man pleads guilty to tricking Owatonna woman out of over $100,000
OWATONNA, Minn. – A guilty plea has been entered over a 70-year-old Steele County resident cheated out of over $110,000. Zihao Xu, 30 of California, has pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft by swindle - amount over $35,000 in value. Xu’s sentencing has been scheduled for October 3.

Minnesota National Guard’s 204th Medical Company Area Support Departs for Deployment Thursday Evening
(KNSI) — Over 50 Soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard’s 204th Medical Company Area Support (MCAS) are deploying to the Middle East today. The 204th MCAS delivers medical support, from basic first aid to advanced care, such as combat lifesavers with emergency medical technician level training, plus physicians and physician assistants. They conduct initial medical treatment such as first aid and lifesaving procedures provided to personnel immediately after an injury or illness and focus on either stabilizing them for evacuation or returning them to duty. The unit offers disease and nonbattle injury prevention, combat stress support to manage psychological impacts, and casualty collection and evacuation for further treatment. They support medical facilities utilizing more advanced services and include the evacuation of patients, initial resuscitation and emergency care, dental services, and laboratory and X-ray capabilities for diagnostic purposes.
