Antonio Pierce couldn't help but smile when he stepped onto the podium Tuesday in Southern California . The Las Vegas Raiders are holding training camp in Costa Mesa, just 30 miles away from where Pierce grew up. So, this is a bit different for him, and he talked about that extensively.

But, training camp is where the real work gets started. It's where the team starts their 2024 season, because now, every week, they will have football. The pads aren't on yet, and won't be till next week, but this is where the real work begins.

Right now, it's all practice until the preseason comes in a few weeks. And when the preseason comes, that's when the football games get played, and that's when it gets even more intense. And for the Raiders, they will have a pretty intense preseason as well.

Usually, teams will not play their most important players, like the starters, primarily the starting quarterback, or in this case whoever the starter is, and then Maxx Crosby and Davante Adams. Why would they play them, when that's just another opportunity to get hurt in a game that doesn't matter?

But, Antonio Pierce has other plans. He is already laying out the blueprint for how the preseason will go in a few weeks.

"I expect all of our guys to play in the preseason," Antonio Pierce said at the introductory presser to training camp in Costa Mesa, California.

The Raiders will play everyone in the preseason games, but how many games is the question. Now, that's good for the fans, and it could have players ready to go when Week 1 hits, but also, they risk injury.

But, with decisions like that, you have to trust what Antonio Pierce is doing. He is the head coach and was hired for a reason. Either way, man it feels good to have football back.
