Coastal consultant speaks up on sea level rise, local impact of state regulations
During a community forum last week, a longtime coastal planning consultant shared insight on sea level rise policies in the state and their local impact. During the Speak Up Newport’s monthly meeting on Wednesday (July 10), the featured speaker was Don Schmitz, president and principal planner of the land use consulting firm Schmitz & Associates. Schmitz represents a wide variety of clients, including the city of Newport Beach, for items that go before the California Coastal Commission. He also works as the consultant for Smart Coast California. He’s been involved with coastal planning and issues related to sea level rise for many years.
Cultural Arts: Music in the Park is in full swing, next concert July 21
Bluebird Park, 772 Cress St. Music in the Park is a free public concert series held Sunday evenings in July and August, at Bluebird Park. Concerts start at 5 p.m. Set-up is not permitted before 3 p.m. No dogs are allowed at Bluebird Park (LBMC 6.16.020). No smoking (LBMC 7.40.030). No display or sale of merchandise (LBMC 18.04.015). Low-seating beach chairs are encouraged. Alcohol is permitted for guests 21 or older, but must be accompanied by a full meal. Solicitation of any kind is not permitted at city events.
Disneyland offering $69 ticket deal to Anaheim residents in celebration of 69th anniversary
Wednesday marks Disneyland's 69th anniversary and the theme park is celebrating by announcing a special ticket offer for Anaheim residents.For a limited time, Anaheim residents can enjoy a day at Disneyland or Disney California Adventure for as low as $69 with a 1-Day, 1-Park ticket.The offer is available for purchase starting Wednesday for visits between Aug. 5 - Sept. 26, 2024.Valid admission and theme park reservation for the same park on the same date are required for entry. The LB Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee held a meeting via Zoom on Thursday (July 11) with City Manager Dave Kiff as the featured speaker. About 30 people attended online.
Laguna Beach FC launches LBFC Junior Academy program
Local community nonprofit, Laguna Beach FC, is launching a recreational youth soccer program starting this fall. The LBFC Junior Academy program will be a seasonal program with games played in Laguna Beach as an introduction to the game of soccer. The 10-week fall session will offer once a week team training and games on Saturdays run by LBFC trained coaches. The aim of the Junior Academy program is skill development, competition and most importantly, having fun.
