BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — TheAlabama Department of Emergency Management is investigating a large grease spill in Bessemer's Valley Creek. ADEM’s investigation found the leak came from the Birmingham Hide and Tallow facility, which is a plant that processes and recycles cooking grease from restaurants and homes across Central Alabama.

Funeral plans have been announced for three family members killed in a Birmingham mass shooting at an adult birthday, including a woman and her grandson. Bessemer man dies in Tuesday morning crash
BESSEMER, Ala (WIAT) – A Bessemer man died in a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday morning. According to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred on the 600 block of 9th Avenue SW around 11:27 a.m. The man, who is currently unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the wreck.

A man convicted of fatally shooting a delivery driver during a robbery attempt in 1998 was executed Thursday evening in Alabama.Keith Edmund Gavin was pronounced dead at 6:32 p.m. CDT following a chemical injection at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in southwest Alabama, authorities said. The 64-year-old inmate was convicted of capital murder in the shooting death of William Clayton Jr. in Cherokee County.Alabama last week agreed in Gavin's case to forgo a post-execution autopsy, which is typically performed on executed inmates in the state.
