County parks reopen after flooding
Cottonwood County Public Works announced that the two county parks that had been closed due to flooding had been reopened to the public, effective Thursday. Pat’s Grove County Park and Mountain County Park had been closed since the beginning of the flooding in the area. Both parks were reopened on Thursday.
County board meets Tuesday
The Cottonwood County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m., at the county courthouse in Windom. On the agenda, the board will receive bids for a bridge replacement project on County Road 5, just north of County Road 15. The current bridge has deteriorating timber abutments. The new structure will be a double precast concrete box culvert.

The 143rd Cottonwood County Fair is about a month away and many of the major events have been announced. “In the Fields,” a band playing the best rock, pop, country, modern and more opens the fair with an Aug. 7 show. A popular event, the Cottonwood County Fair Ranch Rodeo, will be held Aug. 8 and the Colt 45 Band performs that same night.
City of Windom Flood Update, July 1
Update from the City of Windom Mayor Dominic Jones. The Des Moines River at Windom is measuring currently at 22.87’ and is forecasted to continue decreasing steadily. There is a slight chance of severe weather expected tonight and the Emergency Operations Center will continue to monitor the situation overnight. With saturated soils and potential strong winds, there is a risk of tree damage and uprooting.
OUTDOORS SPOTLIGHT: Talcot Lake a prime spot for camping
DUNDEE — Seven miles from downtown Fulda sits a Cottonwood County gem called Talcot Park Campground. The physical address is 53100 State Highway 62. The facility was founded in January 1957 by the Dundee Rod and Gun Club. Less than two decades later, the land was released to the county for both development and maintenance under the direction of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Handful of roads, parks in county remain closed
Cottonwood County Public Works has announced that four county highways and two county parks remain closed, as of Wednesday morning, due to flooding. County Road 5: From State Highway 62 south to the Jackson County line, where it becomes Jackson County Road 9. Jackson County Road 9 also is closed from the county line to Heron Lake.
