Elizabeth Willhite looking to have healthy sophomore season at Emporia State
For 2023 Emporia High School graduate Elizabeth Willhite, her freshman season came with some ups and downs. Willhite is a distance runner at Emporia State. She is running in all three seasons (cross country in the fall, indoor track in the winter and outdoor track in the spring) for the Hornets, though she was forced to redshirt her indoor season after suffering an injury.

It is hard to not wax poetic as I draft this 5-15 report. I sit in the brief chasm between 9 and a half years of a 34+ year veteran of city administration and Monday morning where the interim city manager arrives in-person. I figured that the City would be sailing smoothly over just four days upon Allen Dinkel’s retirement.
Rodeo time in Junction City
( Photos by Anthony Gorges ) The Junction City Rodeo opened Friday night. There were events ranging from bull riding to the calf scramble. The rodeo continues Saturday evening at 7:30 at the arena on South Spring Valley Road. There is a Special Needs Rodeo from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday.
Police arrest two people on South Franklin
Police have reported the arrest of a 26-year old Junction City man, Jesse Lee Bailey III, on requested charges of No Drivers license in Possession, Fail to Yield to Emergency Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Without Lights When Needed and Driving Across Lawns/Sidewalks / Yards. The arrest occurred at 10:08 p.m. Friday at 100 South Franklin.
Altrusa Hosts 4th Annual Golf Tournament
The 4th Annual Altrusa Golf Tournament was held on Saturday, July 13. The corporate sponsor of the tournament is Mueller Waterworks/Pratt Division. Nineteen 4-person teams competed in the 18-hole scramble event. The golf tournament raised over $9,000 to go toward Altrusa projects including SOS, scholarships, literacy and various other local projects.

CloudCorp, which coordinates and facilitates economic development in Cloud County, is seeking a new economic development director. This full-time position is responsible for working closely with the CloudCorp Board of Directors and other staff in promoting the business and economic development interests within Cloud County. This position will include working with all noted departments in providing guidance to individuals and companies to establish, relocate, or expand their businesses within the county. The position will include assistance in the planning and coordination of community development projects, assisting business and residential applicants with local and state permitting processes, and providing research for CloudCorp sponsored projects. This position is a direct report to the CloudCorp Executive Committee.

Furniture Amnesty Day set for July 26
This year’s Furniture Amnesty Day event will take place starting at 8 a.m. Friday, July 26 in City Park. The City of Manhattan has announced that it is a free community event that gives people the opportunity to donate or pick up used furniture at no cost. Anyone can participate. There are no income requirements or forms to fill out to choose from the donated items.
