At the home opener on August 30, the Oklahoma University (OU) Sooners dedicated time to honor the late Toby Keith, who was an avid Boomer Sooner fan himself. After the third quarter, the stadium full of 85,000 fans joined in a sing-along tribute to one of the best in country. His family walked to the middle of the field during the song. The team is planning to continue to honor Toby this way at every single home game this season.

Keith's song 'Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue,' was the chosen sing along. The four-time certified platinum record is arguably one of the most well-known country anthems to date, celebrating America, the flag, and everything it stands for.

On February 5, the world lost this great country music talent. Toby Keith, at the age of 62, lost his battle with stomach cancer. He was an eager and passionate OU fan from a young age as he grew up not too far from Moore, Okla. At the young age of 10, he was seen selling refreshments at Owen Field, formally known as the Gaylord Family Sooners Memorial Stadium. Although he himself did not attend college, Toby's children are OU alumni.

The tribute video went viral on social media, where Keith, the Sooners, college football, and patriotism was celebrated.

Roger Clemons, American baseball pitcher, shared the video with the caption, 'So awesome, hat tip to @OU_Football. We miss you Big Dawg! @tobykeith.'

One fan also shared their praise: 'Excuse my terrible singing, but wow, this was one of the best parts of tonight.' Another said, 'This is the most Oklahoma thing ever. Patriotism, Football, and Toby Keith.'

The cherry on top of the night was that the Sooners took home the win by a landslide. They defeated Temple University with a final score of 51 - 3. This is the 130th season for Sooners football. The season has just began, but it is promising that they will continue the success.

Toby Keith was a very significant figure in the world of country music. He was known for his patriotic music. His career was marked with success for over three decades. He was nominated for a Grammy multiple times and won several Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association awards.
