High interest rates, volatile politics and an unpredictable economy be damned, July's home sales were as hot as the temperature.

Throughout Central Jersey, sellers reaped huge gains as million-dollar estates and buyers continued to battle it out.

Here are the priciest home sales in each Central Jersey county that flew off the MLS in July.

Somerset County: A $3 million Bernards Township estate with its own massage room

Surrounded by bucolic woodland as well as nearby downtown Bernardsville, Bernards Township offers the best of all worlds — which is exactly what a classic estate at 140 Mountain Road granted when it sold for $3 million on July 22.

That was about $300,000 less than its asking price when it hit the market in November. The seller was represented by Ashley Christus with Turpin Realtors.

Before that, it last sold for $770,000 in 2004.

The six-bedroom mansion sits on a 3¼-acre lot at the end of a winding driveway and nestled in between forests and manicured lawns.

Inside the 7,900-square-foot stone and stucco home, there are five bathrooms, two powder rooms, a four-car garage, a home theater, a gym with a massage room, an office, and a primary suite with its own sitting room and three walk-in closets.

Gardens, a greenhouse, a firepit and stone terraces outside round out this home that's not even 20 years old.

Hunterdon County: A $4.8 million country compound in Tewksbury

Tewksbury is known for refined country living, which is exactly what 62 Philhower Road in the township delivered when it sold for $4.8 million on July 11.

That was nearly a half-million dollars less than its asking price when it first hit the market in August 2023. The seller was represented by Debra Ross with Kienlen Lattmann Sotheby's International Realty.

The country compound set upon 50 acres includes a carriage house; a barn with a caretaker’s apartment; and a pool complex surrounded by gardens with a pool, spa and a pool house that has a kitchen and bathrooms.

Completely renovated in 2020, the home has five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a library, office and gym, as well as new millwork and hardwood floors.

Middlesex County: A $1.7 million stately brick mansion in Plainsboro

Outside Princeton where the average home just topped $1.5 million , a stately-brick mansion in the Estates at Plainsboro community sold for $1.705 millon on July 11.

The five-bedroom, 4½ bathroom home with more than 4,500 square feet of living space at 42 Woodland Drive was first listed for April for $1.6 million. However, the sellers, represented by Joseph Buono with RE MAX Diamond Realtors, made another $100,000 than they bargained for on the sale.

Built in 2002, the price is nearly double what the home last sold for in 2010.

The new residents enjoy an office, sunroom, kitchen with breakfast nook and three-car garage. And with white walls, white carpeting and hardwood floor, they also have a blank canvas to set their stamp upon.

Union County: A $3.5 million homey yet contemporary home in Westfield

With a walkable downtown full of hip restaurants and chic boutiques, Westfield homeowners have a mix of a suburban lifestyle and an urban playground — making it one of the top 40 most expensive ZIP codes in the state.

At $3.5 million, the home at 785 Lenape Trail was one of the town’s priciest sales of the year when it closed on July 17. That was about the same as the asking price when it first hit the market in late March, listed by Frank Isoldi with Coldwell Banker Realty.

The six-bedroom, eight-bathroom estate has all the markings of an upscale abode, like high ceilings, detailed moldings and oversized windows. It also has a two-story foyer, primary bathroom with a jetted tub, game room, gym and home theater.

Outside on its more than half acre lot, it has a covered and uncovered patio, built-in barbecue and firepit, and turf-fenced backyard. It’s only about 1½ miles from downtown.
