VINELAND — Cumberland County authorities said a man fatally shot a 21-year-old woman in an area home, then apparently killed himself.

Police found the woman and the 22-year-old man in a residence along Roosevelt Boulevard around 6 p.m. Monday, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office. Both were flown to Cooper University Hospital, Camden, where they were pronounced dead.

The prosecutor's office said their initial investigation found the man shot the woman and himself.

"The parties were not married but previously were in a relationship," it said in a statement.

Investigative findings are subject to autopsy results, it added. The deceased were identified only by their initials — M.R. for the woman, J.C.S. for the man.

Police found them after responding to a report of gunshots.

An investigation is ongoing, the prosecutor's office said Tuesday.
